More Moorea or I Just Met a Coral Named Moorea

Moorea – 8 am 9 December until noon 9 December

Keeping my Fall travels’ redundant theme, we left Bora Bora Monday evening at 11 pm. I was watched the sailing from my verandah (I like that verandah you might have guessed) and retired for the night, so to speak, only to arrive at 8 am at the same anchorage as 6 weeks ago in Moorea. The ship’s itinerary this time called for an overnight in this most fantastic of places that certainly makes the short list of “most beautiful place on Earth”. (Well, Lake Chungara was awfully nifty, too. See http://cbu-sa.blogspot.com for that one and for lots of more pictures of Moorea from the earlier trip, but it is a lot easier to breathe in Moorea than at the 15,200 foot elevation lake in Chile.)

After a pleasant walk along the same road as I walked two months ago I took a “free shuttle to the Black Pearl store”, looked in the store or a millisecond (“Oh my, these pearls are lovely. Where’s the nearest beach?”) Then took a swim off a white sand beach in water that was clear and warm enough to be identified as water only when it became harder to walk. Had a beer, walked back to the shop, looked again at the pearls and took the store’s shuttle back to the tender dock. Wonder if they saw through my ploy? Nah.

Evening included a pool barbeque in which the well supervised service staff showed their precision and coordination under a obviously phony sunset behind the “Bali Hai Mountain” that must have been painted on. Had dinner on deck with Phillip and Carolyn, a delightful couple from Manchester, England I’ve met on the cruise and then continued the evening with a lemoncello in my favorite place onboard, the Observation Lounge, where we watched blackness out the large windows. Went back on shore after breakfast Tuesday and took some pictures of flowers. The Environmental Officer was driving the tender and flirting with the Security Officer (she’s the pretty one). There’s a lot about cruise ships I still don’t understand, but I am not complaining. Just confused.

As I’ve mentioned before, someone has to do this sort of thing.
