Rarotonga,
The weather yesterday allowed for use of my verandah in this “all verandah” ship. (They talk funny on cruise ships. Of course, no one actually wanted a real “outside cabin” on ships where “inside cabins” were said to be available as the former would probably entail getting wet when exiting.) I busied myself reading and watching Ray’s subtly humorous briefing on the room TV since as expected only FOX News was available—via streaming video off a subscribed MTN Internet feed for the ship—making Ray’s briefing all the more relevant and truthful.
A number of us brave souls weathered the, uh, weather on deck to watch the ship slowly approach the anchorage, look at where the tenders would have tendered us to, and then not anchor but rather leave the anchorage and head back out to see enroute Bora Bora for tomorrow tomorrow morning (in the morning.) Again, I will attempt to take a tuk tuk or a wiki wiki coach bus with my friend’s friends Joe and Joe to the Bora Bora Hilton Hilton for pu pu’s and then Mahi Mahi.
Now to breakfast and more discussion of the ill “pod”, underpowered 50,000 ton ship, and the captain’s judgment. By the way, he always indentifies himself on the public address systems as, “This is ME from the bridge.” Some of my fellow guests believe he is Chinese. Others—mostly Silversea regulars—are beginning to find each ourselves discussing how the staff here stand around reading newspapers, ignoring guests’ needs, blaming their mistakes on the customers, and in general not being supervised. Sometimes three or four wine stewards come by at each meal within seconds of each other offering to change the wine from the daily white to the red. Oh, what fun….
